I am fairly new to the green scene and one of the first steps I decided to make was switch out all of my old toxic cleaning products for more environmentally safe choices. Now that we have a small Dachshund (Bailey) living with us I am much more conscious. My town house has limestone tiling throughout the entire bottom floor and I am constantly mopping. Like most small dogs he licks up pretty much anything we drop and I was worried about the chemicals he was ingesting.
For the past month I have been using Simple Green and am really happy with the results. It cleans great and doesn’t leave behind any strong chemical smell. Best of all it is super cheap!, it’s highly concentrated and the tiniest amount goes a long way. This is the first natural cleaning product I have used and was worried that it would not be strong enough to kill all the bacteria and grime, but according to the company it was first invented for the industrial marketplace. This all-purpose cleaner/degreser can be used on pretty much anything from floors, windows, pots and pans to animal cages and greasy tools.

[...] Properly ventilate when using chemical cleaning products, or better yet use natural, chemical free alternatives. For more information on natural cleaning products check out my previous blog, For Dog Sakes!, Clean Up Your Act. [...]

We use a steam cleaner on our hardwood floors generally, but for our area rugs I like the stain remover from Gonzo: http://www.gonzocorp.com/gonzo/product/2324e991-113f-47ef-a797-d0d54235b0c1.aspx
It’s green and safe for our cats, who lick their feet even when they don’t lick the floor.
